My name is Tim, and I am an alcoholic. What a great find this site is! I've been meaning to get online to see if such a site existed for months, but, in typical alcoholic style, took this long to quit procrastinating and do something. I expect to be here more frequently now , and would be curious if anyone is from my region (Bergen County, N.J.). God Bless.

Hi, I'm Liz and I'm an alcoholic. One of the most beautiful events that happened to me was being reborn. I felt like I was floating above the ground, not touching the ground. I told my friend, that I felt like a child did after a bath. So pure and clean. I knew I was cleansed on the inside too. That was nearly 5 years ago. So many other wonderful things have come to me, but it was only after I decided to change my ways. I look back now and use those old times, when I need them, as learning tools. Life only gets better...later..

Hi. my name's Hannah and I'm an alcoholic

Strange writing that, I'm more used to saying it aloud at a meeting. I'm starting to understand why old timers often say they're grateful to be alcoholic. If I didn't have this illness then I maybe I would never have realised that I had a LOT of work to do on myself. There are many people in the world who would probably benefit from working a twelve step programme. I had to be battered to my knees before I conceded that just possibly I might need to make a few alterations in the attitude department.

Now I'm learning one step at a time, one day at a time that I can be peaceful within. I don't need to rely on the benefits of chemical aids or alcohol.

Thank you for letting me share... Blessed be

Hi it's Suzanne! Today I think I will be a grateful alcoholic in recovery (that sounds a lot better than what I used to say..you know..."I think I might have a drinking problem") Thanx to all for the welcome. Eric C this site is now in my favourites, and to all of you, I love coffee, always have (when I wasn't drinking wine or beer) and always will love coffee, so, I will make the coffee pot a regular hangout! Oh, something else, I love humour. My family doesn't get alcoholic humour. For some strange reason they just stare at me. But I guess here to, I am not alone. I will check in later. Have a great 24 hours. And remember to "keep it simple". That last comment was mostly intended for me. That is usually where I screw things up.

I am glad this site was available to me tonight. I got pickpocketed of about the equivalent of 200usd on the metro on the way to my AA meeting. I almost didn't go to the meeting. It may have saved me money, but I am trying to convice myself what I gained there was more important. Been praying alot for my higher power to help me let go of anger. Overall, had a great week and have a lot to be thankfull for. Just, not feeling it right now. I have one year. I need to remind myself of where I was. Helps when I share. Thanks for the opportunity.

An AA member passed a man sitting on the curb the other night. It was cold -- 30 degrees -- and the fellow had on a t-shirt, jeans, no socks or shoes. An empty wine bottle was next to him.

Our member sat down and inquired as to how things were going. "Well," said the man, " my wife threw me out for good. My boss has fired me. I am out of wine, have no money, no job, and no home."

" Have you ever thought about turning your life over to the care of God ?" asked the AA.

The man replied, " Yeah, but what if he screws it up ?".

Jen - Can't help you with the cigarette or ice cream. And I see someone else has showed you how to set up a favorites folder - so I'll give you the Austin ( I assume Texas ) intergoup number and a website that lists AA meetings in the Austin area:

512-451-3071

www.realtime.net/~cyanosis/locald.htm

Also at www.billh.org is a chat-site and I know there are a lot of people from the Austin area there each day and night.

Peace

This test is P.T.S.P. for any old timer it just like Dt's only your sober and the movies can start anytime and where all they need is a trigger. If there is somebody out there who has PTSD and would like to talk with me on e-mail it sure would be nice because during the day it's just me and my computer mail ken_evans@bc.sympatico.ca.

Well, it's been happening at quite a fast pace here lately. Know what? I don't have to drink, use or run anymore!! It is almost impossible to express my gratitude for the program and the people who have given so freely of themselves. So my message for the day is "When the @#&% hit's the fan, DUCK!!" Go to meetings, share and know that "This too shall pass" Thanks for being here.

Say, Robb -- a thought from an "old-timer." I was always taught that men talk to men and women talk to women in AA -- Why? Because honesty is difficult enough and we tend to play games with the opposite sex or -- to put in less delicately "Under every skirt there's a slip."

I think that goes for cyberspace too! This getting sober-and-staying-sober business is going to take a lot of focused effort! :-)

Last night we had a year anniversary for one of my sponsees, complete with cake, candle, a candle-light 11th step meeting and loads of HP-designed snow outside.

I was asked to chair, and spoke about "connection" -- which is the promises come true -- connection with self, others and HP. I'm still feeling the up-lift of love and good feeling -- while I look out at ice, rain and snow. 11,000 people without power again in parts of Maine. Perhaps we could say a prayer!

I was glad to find this- only got the computer yesterday, so I felt fortunate to get here so quickly!! Everyone sounds good, and I hope it continues that way. Small town, mtgs once a week, lots of bs, I'm the only female- truly, I'd have loved that years ago, now its just tedious, and at times scary. Had to swallow hard when the subject of domestic abuse arose, and I left in a hurry. But I can't seem to stop expecting perfection from self. Hang in there all, and keep trudging, no doubt we'll meet. Alice jake5_93@Yahoo.com

Hi! My name is Suzanne and I'm an alcoholic. Just stopping by for my morning coffee. The guys in the house are all set for "Super Bowl Sunday". Me, I don't really care. It gives me more time to use the computer. We have 5 users in the house and I am usually last in line.(except when they are at school and work. Oh, and my household jobs are done!) I would be very interested to hear from anyone who suffers from "ALCOHOLIC NEUROPATHY". I have been researching this on the internet but all the medical terms are becoming mind boggling. Thought it would be easier talking with someone who suffers from it. My E-Mail address is Kmartsh0pr@aol.com Thanks and a great 24 hours to all!
