AOL and text e-mail users may experience problems activating their
membership. When you register, you are sent an automatic e-mail message welcoming you to Staying Cyber and asking you to use the link in the e-mail to activate your membership. Most e-mail clients format this link text as a "clickable" link. AOL and some plain text e-mail clients (programs) do not. If the link in your e-mail confirmation is not clickable you will have to copy it, paste it in to your browser's address bar and hit "Enter" (or "Return" if you are using a Mac). AOL users should also be aware that version 9.0 (and possibly earlier versions)uses an Advanced Spam Filter which may override previous spam designations. >Click on Settings and click the Essentials tab. >Scroll down to Spam Controls and click on it. >On the right side under "Control What Mail I Get" is the checkbox enabling this Advanced Spam Filter If you have not received your activation e-mail it is always worth a look in the Spam folder, found under the Mail menu. If you don't know how to copy and paste: Select the link by clicking at the beginning of the link text and while holding down the left mouse button drag across the link text until it's all highlighted. Or click anywhere in the link text and click three times, just like Judy Garland and the ruby slippers. That should highlight the whole link. Now up at the top of the screen you should see the "Edit" menu. Click on the word Edit and while holding down the mouse button run down the list until you get to Copy. Or you can just press the CTRL key + C. (Command +C for Mac) You have now copied the selected text. Click where you want the text of the e-mail link to go. You want it to go in the browsers address bar. That's the long white text box at the top of the browser window. Select what is in the address bar. Now go back to the "Edit" menu and click on it and while holding down the mouse button go down to "Paste". Or use CTRL +V (Command +V for Mac) You should see the link text appear in the address bar of the browser. You've copied and pasted! Now press the Enter (or Return) key. I've also been told that if you select the link and drag it into the AOL browser window, the AOL browser will open the link. Edited by SC Tech |
